2020 – The Wolf Pack’s Year in Review

From learning to use Microsoft Teams to it becoming part of our everyday lives, and from commuting to the office to walking the ten steps to our desks, 2020 has been a year of lightning speed change with a lot of uncertainty. Although chaotic at times, some of the undeniable perks have been more time with our family and pets, and the ability to keep on top of chores during the week, turning workends into weekends.

Bushfire Give Back, School Replacements and the Bushfire Recovery Program

With the devastating bushfires across Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia in early 2020, the Sensum team made sure we were giving back where we can. Sensum proudly donated to the Bendigo Bank Bushfire Disaster Appeal, and matched staff donations dollar for dollar.

The team collected and donated towels to be sent with local veterinarians flying into East Gippsland, to care for animals injured during the fires. Together with our partners, but collected over 150 towels.

Our housing team also commenced the project and program management services for the Department of Health and Human Services’ Bushfire Recovery Program to provide short term modular housing to families who lost their homes in the fires.

Local schools, such as Clifton Creek, were irrevocably damaged in the Victorian bushfires that meant entire replacements were required. Clifton Creek Primary School was totally devastated by the bushfires at the end of December 2019. We were thrilled to have provided a solution that allowed this beautiful little school to commence classes ready for Day 1, Term 1 2020, meaning it was completed in just 29 days.

183 Days of Vlogging

We kept our Wolf Pack strong with our daily vlog communications. Our CEO, Nick, has vlogged faithfully every day into what has become 183 days of vlogging, keeping the team up to date on all the happenings with the Pack in a fun and interactive way.

Working From Home

Unprecedented COVID-19 circumstances meant 9 months of working from home for our Victorian team. This meant extra time with pets and embracing a more casual uniform.

Keeping Connected

Our skills grew with the introduction of Guitar Jams, taught by our multi-talented Management Accountant Duncan, daily meditations lead by Corporate Services Director Pat, morning workouts with Project Manager Lauren and GReg brings us virtual cooking classes. Thank you to our brilliant team members who shared their skills and knowledge.

Wolf Cubs Arrive

Our biggest year yet of introducing baby wolf cubs to our team. Vlog appearances and Friday Night Drinks from home means we’ve been able to get to know the little cubs, while supporting the new parents in our team.

Great Projects for Great School Communities

In 2020 we project managed 28 new school buildings across Victoria, focusing on the demolition and replacement of school buildings with asbestos, to replace each with modern permanent modular school facilities.

Growing in Adelaide

With the Sensum team in South Australia growing quickly, in July we moved into a new office in the Adelaide CBD.

Social Events From Far Away

Some creative thinking allowed our year’s social calendar to be reshuffled as it headed online. Together we did a virtual wine tasting in matching dressing gowns, themed cuisine dinners, Zoom strategy days and shared drinks on Friday nights.

Shave the Beard/Save the Beard

As with many people working from home, our Corporate Services Director Patrick McDonald grew a stellar beard. At the end of lockdown, Pat had his friends, family, team and our business community vote on whether the beard was shaved or saved. Votes were made via donations to WWF Australia. The donations to shave the beard won and the beard was gone!

Arriving in New South Wales

This year we moved into our third state New South Wales, where we are excited to share our knowledge, learn from the market, support further growth and help to create greater opportunity for all. Importantly we are excited to create further Sensum roles in a state a number of our current team fondly refer to as home. We welcomed Scott Hearne as our NSW State Lead and first team member in Sydney.

Celebrating a Year Well Spent

With a challenging year coming to a close, the Wolf Pack were excited to be together for our Christmas Parties.

We wish our extended Sensum Wolf Pack a safe and happy festive period. We are all looking forward to working with you all again in 2021.
