Bushfire Preparedness Program

Following Black Saturday, the Victorian Department of Education and Training established the School Bushfire Protection Project (SBPP) to conduct a comprehensive review of bushfire and emergency management arrangements in Victorian schools.

As part of the program, we assessed all school buildings nominated as a Shelter in Place (SIP). SIPs are required in bushfire prone schools as part of emergency management planning and are a place of last resort after all other options have failed.

Following the audit process, we managed works to ensure that these schools had suitable measures in place to deal with potential bushfires. The scope of works included buildings as well as surrounding vegetation.
