SENSUM Supports Kids Under Cover

Sensum’s $12,000 donation to Kids Under Cover has been put to good use and made real, positive differences to the lives of people in need. Since the donation was made in June 2017, two thirds of the funds were allocated to a Studio Program and one third to a Scholarship Program.

Kids Under Cover is the only not-for-profit organisation in Australia dedicated to preventing youth homelessness by providing studio accommodation in family’s back yards and education scholarships.

Sensum’s expertise in the design and construction of prefabricated and relocatable buildings means its team has a keen understanding of the value of providing much needed additional space to disadvantaged families and the many levels of the benefits reaped.

The donation received from Sensum contributed to the funding of a new one-bedroom Kids Under Cover studio in Boronia, providing stable, secure accommodation for a young person at risk of becoming homeless. The studio build commenced in June and the finished product was handed over to the family on 12 July.

This studio exemplifies Kids Under Covers’ commitment to sustainable design. Its 6-star energy efficiency rating means comfort is optimised and operating costs are reduced.

On average, these studios remain with the family for around five years, then when no longer required, are deconstructed and relocated to a new home. The studios may be relocated up to four times within their usable lifespan.

The remainder of Sensum’s donation was used to help fund five educational scholarships for young people living in Kids Under Cover studios. Reducing the financial stress on carers means the young people can focus on their studies without worry and have the opportunity to improve confidence, self-esteem, and employment prospects.

Sensum is proud to support such a worthy organisation as Kids Under Cover which is devoted to giving children a brighter future and keeping families connected.
